One of One.

We are a not-for-profit charity that supports, encourages and celebrates women and people in the Australian music industry by highlighting and acknowledging their achievements.

We are lucky to work alongside so many hardworking women. We have built an online community with the aim of inspiring and empowering others, whether they be people who have worked in the industry for decades, those paving their way into the industry or currently studying the business.

One of One was founded by Directors Sarah Hamilton (Ditto Music), Joanna Cameron, (The Delancey, NYC) and Vader Fame. In 2019, One of One welcomed Ellen Kirk (Look Out Kid) as our third Director and Kavisha Kuruk (White Sky) as our Treasurer.

The One of One events team includes Helen Marcou, Kirsty Rivers, Kate Duncan, Jane Slingo, Emily Collins, Meg Williams and Bec Young.

One of One Breakfasts – International Women’s Day

In 2017, we hosted our first International Women’s Day breakfast event at Bakehouse Studios. The events celebrate the achievements of women and people in music, and provide a mentorship opportunity for those entering the music industry. We invite mentors and established women from various roles within music, and also mentees, or those that are beginning their career, so that they can connect with each other and forge new relationships. Each year we try to ensure that the guest list is diverse and considered, as we expand our community. There are speeches, awards, performances and perhaps most importantly, the opportunity for women and people from all parts of the music industry to celebrate International Women’s Day together.

In 2017 Jen Cloher delivered a powerful keynote speech, ‘Women in Australian Music Can No Longer Be Erased From the History Books‘, and we had a surprise performance and Q and A session with Amanda Palmer. (photos by Michelle Grace Hunder can be found here).

After the success of the first event, in 2018 we doubled in size, and with 150 guests we moved the breakfast to Abbotsford Convent. A very moving keynote from Linda Bosidis titled ‘Women, Put Yourself Forward, It’s No Longer a Man’s World’ was a highlight of the morning, which also featured performances by Ali Barter, Kaiit and Stella Donnelly. In 2019, for the first time, there will be an International Women’s Day event held simultaneously in Sydney, with the One of One Sydney team curating the event. Held at Barangaroo House, we are incredibly excited to be hosting an event for the Sydney and NSW community.

The Melbourne 2019 event will be held at iconic venue The Esplanade Hotel in St. Kilda.
