Why did you want to get into the music industry?

Music has always been such a big part of my life, I really couldn’t imagine doing anything else. If I could help people with my stories and melodies the way other artists helped me growing up that’s all I could ask for. I think the world would be a much darker place if we didn’t have the gift of music so why not use it to the best of my abilities.

“I think having mentors and collaborating with people in the field is really important.”

Do you feel that higher education is a necessary step to enter the music industry?

No, not really in my opinion. In this day and age where there are so many workshops and tutorials for free I don’t see why it’s always necessary. Obviously not for every artist, it depends on the type of music you create. I think having mentors and collaborating with people in the field is really important.

Have you had to overcome any challenges or adversity in your career, and if so, how did you approach them?

As much as I love singing and writing songs, performing them has always been quite a challenge for me. I think I’ll always deal with a little bit of stage fright but in the end it’s so worth getting to sing to people and see the songs resonate with them. I try to remind myself that those feelings are good and I should harness them to perform the best I can.

“Once [the songs are] out in the world they don’t belong to you anymore.”

What is the best piece of life advice you’ve ever received?

Your job as an artist is to write the songs from your experiences then let them go. Once they’re out in the world they don’t belong to you anymore, you can let those feelings go.
