For eight years, the One Of One organisation and charity has been a dedicated source of inspiration and light for many women and non-binary members of the Australian music industry.

Focused on uplifting and elevating the strong and diverse community of female and non-binary professionals making waves of change within the industry, One Of One’s work has always been working towards making more spaces for industry achievements and new ideas to shine.

As well as the above, One Of One has also prioritised sharing and collaboration; ensuring that new relationships and connections are formed through their online presence and specifically, through their popular series of breakfasts held on International Women’s Day. One of One honours the significance, importance and history of International Women’s Day, and will host the first event in Meanjin/Brisbane on March 8th. In order to become more inclusive of the gender non-conforming members of the music industry, One Of One have restructured their format and approach to provide a safe and supportive space for female and non-binary music industry professionals to thrive and connect all throughout March, Women’s History Month.

In 2023, One Of One announces their biggest  roll out to date, as they reveal a 5 date tour of sorts: a series of industry breakfasts (both ticketed and invite-only), taking place right throughout the country.

What started as a gathering of inspirational individuals in Melbourne seven years ago, has consistently grown in reach and appeal, to what it is now: a mark on the Australian music calendar that has become simply unmissable.

As part of their 2023 campaigning, One Of One’s IWD 2023 events will begin in Meanjin (Brisbane) on March 8th – the first time an official One Of One breakfast will be held in the city.

Home to some of the industry’s brightest and innovative minds, the expansion of One Of One to Meanjin holds special significance for founders Sarah Hamilton, Joanna Cameron and Bec Young; as it does for the local team on ground.

“The music industry in Meanjin is thriving now, more than ever before. It’s home to so many amazing women and non-binary folk and we cannot wait to get them all together in one room to chat, celebrate and watch some very talented speakers and performers.

We’re honoured to welcome the One of One team to Meanjin/Brisbane and delighted to be teaming up with them to launch our first One of One – International Women’s Day event. We’ve enviously watched the One of One events take place in other cities and leapt at the chance to work with their incredible team.”

ONE OF ONE MEANJIN (BRISBANE) TEAM

Following on from this first event of the tour, the One Of One breakfasts continue through into Larrakia Country (Darwin), Kaurna Yerta (Adelaide) and Naarm (Melbourne), before wrapping up with a final event on Gadigal Land (Sydney). The presence of One Of One in these cities comes buoyed off the back of the success of IWD breakfasts in 2022; an instant indicator to the team that this momentum could not be squandered.

“We are delighted to again be celebrating the talent and tenacity of women in music in the NT, from all areas of the sector. Thank you to One of One for providing the space to gather, learn and celebrate together.”

Coco Eke – Darwin Team

“We’re excited to once again host events in Darwin, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne and can’t wait to meet the community in Brisbane. Whilst One of One is essentially run by three directors (in our own time and in addition to our full time jobs!), we also engage with members of the community in each city to assist with producing the events and ensuring they are state-led. One of One is here for the community, so we respond to what will work in each location.

This year, for the first time ever, tickets will be on sale to the general industry for our events in Melbourne and Sydney. Previously these have been invite only, but we have listened to feedback and want to ensure more people can attend who may not have been invited in the past.”

All events except the final two (The Forum and The Factory Theatre) are invite-only, with more details still to come regarding how you can get involved!

“One of One’s unique annual events are vitally important in the Victorian music industry calendar and one of the only opportunities for non-identifying people to gather in a safe and welcoming space to celebrate through connection…”

Linda Bosidis, MUSHROOM GROUP

“At a time when the industry is, finally, pursuing meaningful cultural and behavioural change, One of One has a clear role to play in advancing the interests of women and their rightful place in the industry.”

Sally Howland, SUPPORT ACT

“The One of One event is an important date in our staff calendar – a unique opportunity for female staff across our many companies and offices to come together and reflect on the progress our industry has taken, thanks to industry partners like One of One.”

Jaddan Comerford, UNIFIED

“The team manages to create an instantly safe and inclusive environment, where attendees can be inspired and connect with like-minded colleagues. The future of the music industry is female, and this event provides the opportunity for women to be seen, and to feel empowered to take the next steps in their career.”
